In case you were wondering if I am joking about thinking of going back to school to become a translator in any way…
No, I’m not. The rest will be left for the husband and I to figure out.

I wanted Kevin on the show. So sue me. I love him. I know his voice isn’t really great, but he’s so damn cool. Also, he reminds me a lot of my cousin, so I would have hated to see him go. I bet he’ll be one of the first to go, but he’s so adorable. Sigh.
I also wanted Melissa on the show. Here I even would say that she has a really good voice. I didn’t like her song choice this week and I absolutely hated to see Ayla go, but if it keeps Melissa on the show, I’m fine with it. Actually I could do without Mandisa. Don’t get me wrong, she’s got an amazing voice and she seems like a really nice and fun person, but I don’t like her as much as I like most of the other contestants. Besides, what does she want on this show, anyway? She’s so much better than that, what the hell is she doing on American Idol???
I want to hate Kelly (Kellie?) Pickler, but I can’t. I just… I can’t. She is so close to being the prototype of the sweet, innocent girl with the tragic home story and it’s just so sad and she’s just so sweet and you just hate her, but it doesn’t work with Kellie (Kelly?). I actually like her a lot. How did that happen?
And I’m glad that Gedeon’s gone. Which I feel somewhat ashamed for, because I realize this is a singing competition and boy, could this guy sing, but he got on my nerves so much, I was happy when he was voted off today. I also feel relieved a bit, because I guess that a lot of people share my views of Gedeon. He wasn’t voted off because he couldn’t sing, he was voted off, because his smile was scary and his over-pronounciating was very close to bodily injury. Also, his painting? Did anybody get what he actually wanted to say?
This year I want to read 52 books. One book a week sounds like a reasonable goal, at least as long as there are some short books in between.
I guess I can bury these plans right now. I have started „Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell“ and there’s no way I’m going to get through this in less than a month. I love it a lot, but it’s 1,000 pages in pretty small letters.
I’m throwing in some „Comme un roman“ chapters every now and then, so for one of the first times in a long time I am reading two books at a time. It’s just that right now I have this stack of books on my actual nightstand (Yes, we do have nightstands now. Real ones. Actually we got two for one, because the lady at IKEA forgot to scan the second one.) and I just can’t wait until I have finished „Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell“ before taking a peek into the other ones.
Oh, damnit.
I wanted Brittany and Josh to win. I know that wasn’t possible, but I so wanted it. Although Josh certainly deserved it more, Brittany was just too sweet. Damn.
Of course, the one question for Cher was a freebie. „Wes“ was an answer so obvious, it was ridiculous and unfair. Who made these questions anyway. The randomness aside, some questions were a lot harder than others, so it was kind of a miracle they had to go through two tie-breaker rounds.
I also read that a lot of viewers (at least those who post on Television Without Pity) had problems with Joe saying he would want to change Brittany’s „Innocence“. While I agree that this answer sounds weird, I think – and someone on the TWoP boards came up with the same suggestion – that he was talking about innocence more in the way of naivete. She sometimes seems too sweet for her own good. Actually she was mentioning something of that kind when thinking of answer, something about her and relationships, so the answer didn’t seem too far off for me.
That said, I almost tore up several times during this last episode. I still have some issues about the casting, mainly because Wes was as far from a geek as Cher was from a know-nothing beauty, and I still think the elimination room scenes are either boring or stupid, but I enjoyed those eight episodes a lot. I’ll definitely be there when the third season starts.
Friendster confuses me. It always tells me that someone is in my extended network and then when I want to find out how we are connected, it tells me that there’s no connection. So, how can someone be in my extended network and at the same time not connected to me in any way. That makes no sense whatsoever.
Also, I had to discover that German’s are very stubborn when it comes to Friendster. I have sent out about ten to twelve invitations to people I would like to see on Friendster and so far one has joined. I think it’s a German thing. We are not quick when it comes to fun internet stuff. I must admit that at first I didn’t really know what to do with Friendster myself, but I signed up anyway, and now I think it’s a lot of fun. It would be more fun, if I would someday find someone I know there, and I’m not giving up hope.
Until then I have to be satisfied that a friend of a friend of mine is connected to me in about five or six degrees both through srah and DeAnn. So, it really is a small world.
Since I decided I’d rather be a translator, I think a really good project would be to translate Amber Benson’s „Accursed – Ghosts of Albion“.
As far as I know nobody has done that so far. Not that I really think that I will manage that, but it seems like a fun idea.
Oh. My. God. I love this book. Love it.
It’s everything I hoped it would be. And better. And even better than better than I hoped it would be.
Now I can work on my crewel tryptichon. Because I’m a freaking stitch artist.
All the good things you think of me:
And some bad things, too:
Update: I’m moving this up again, because not enough people have done this. Seriously. I need feedback on my greatness. You don’t have to do the negative one, though. I realize it seems hard for people to say negative things about others. I tried to do Jennifer’s Nohari window and failed because I just couldn’t bring myself to say anything bad about her. If the link didn’t work last time, please try again. I don’t know what is wrong, but it doesn’t seem to be broken, since four people managed to vote already.
Update #2: By the way, for those who don’t know. The Johari window is a kind of personality evaluation. You mark six adjectives who describe your personality best and have other people mark five or six adjectives who they think describe you best. This way you get a feedback on how other people view you in comparison to how you see yourself. A fun fact is that we did a very similar thing as a project in one of my sociology classes at university (and got a B+ on it) . We had one person evaluate themselves and another – a complete stranger – evaluate them just based on the first impression to find out about how a first impression really says something about the way a person sees her- or himself. Amongst other things it became obvious that people tend to assume positive character traits a lot more often than negative ones. So there’s still hope for the human race. I guess.

Four People To Be Tagged
You have all done this, haven’t you? If not, consider yourself tagged and leave me a message if you do this meme.
Generally I love librarything. It’s fun, it’s easy, it even makes sense – kind of. But I have one minor problem with it, more precisely with my authorcloud.
See, it looks like I’m a huge Dan Brown/Stephen King fan. Which I’m not. I mean, I enjoyed Brown’s novel and I really really liked everything I have read by Stephen King so far, but I’m so far from being an avid fan, it’s not even funny. It’s true that I’ve read all of Brown’s books. Which isn’t so damn hard to do, since he’s only written four and they each take you about three days to get through. Stephen King, that’s different, but again I’m far from being a Stephen King reader.
Let’s see. What King books have I read?
Carrie? Nope.
It? Nope.
The Stand? Nope.
Needful Things? Nope.
Misery? Nope.
Anything else so popular they turned it into a movie? Nope.
I have read several short stories. I loved most of them, although they freaked me out. „The Mist“ still haunts me. Then I have read the first three books of the Dark Tower series, which were great as well.
The problem with the author cloud is that I read so much and try not to focus on certain authors for the whole broaden your horizon experience. So until now, having read four books of one author equals this author to appear in font size 9276 in my author cloud. Don’t believe it, people. It’s misleading.
But fun.
