Bye, Bye Town.

We’re moving on Sunday. And I have no idea how much chaos it’s gonna be. Maybe none at all, but who knows?

Anyway, we’re moving, and I am hopeful that everything will sort itself out. It always does, doesn’t it?

I Did It!

I ran a 10k and survived. And I even got a fancy medal.

There. See.

Me and my Medal

I still don’t know in what time I finished it, but I guess something between 1:15 and 1:20. We did the first four laps in nearly exactly 15 minutes each, but I think the last one was a bit slower. I’ll have to wait until I get the results.

Today I will try to run a 10k without dying. Let’s hope I succeed. Afterwards I might go out with some friends from work, one of whom won’t be with the company much longer, since she decided to go back to the USA, to which I have no more to say than Liz, I hope you’re going to find a wonderful new job in a great town, and choose it wisely because we’d really like to come and visit you there.

The rest of the time we spend moving. Half of our stuff is already over there and the rest will follow next weekend. Which means, we’re MOVING NEXT WEEKEND. We still don’t have a kitchen and most of our books are strewn about the apartment, because we are too cheap to buy any more boxes, so we just bring stuff over there, unpack it and take the empty boxes back home. And this makes a lot more sense if you knew how freaking expensive good cardboard boxes are. And nobody wants bad boxes, because they fall apart like right-away and nobody wants that.

I mean, at least I updated my reading list and am proud to announce that I can make my 52 books this year without any problems. I’m already at 48, although I admit there were some comic books in between and I usually finish these within a day, so it’s like half-cheating or something. On the other hand I had some long books in between, so that probably makes it okay after all.

In the meantime we’ve already brought a lot of stuff over to the new apartment, so this apartment is nearly devoid of books and other things. This way we hope that the actual move with the stuff we really need (like, for example, the bed) won’t be that exhausting. I mean, think about it, what really wears you out is the endless amount of boxes you have to carry, not that one bed or those few chairs. We still don’t have a definite moving day planned, but it will most probably be around the middle of September. We also won’t have a kitchen by then, but a fridge should suffice for a couple of weeks if necessary.

Cool German Glasses

We just came home from a very fun dinner with my friend Liz and I remembered something she said about our (the husband’s and my) glasses. Or more generally even, she said that Germans always wear cool glasses. This has never occurred to me, especially since I’ve had these glasses forever, but to us it is in fact kind of a big deal. It’s not that I care too much, it’s more that if I want to get new ones (which apparently happens every few years or so) I want to pick some that I really like. It doesn’t necessarily mean that I pay a lot extra for having super cool glasses. In fact the actual lenses are what’s expensive and the main reason why I don’t like to get new glasses and why when I do I try to get some that look really good.

But I digress.

When I remembered what she said about German glasses I also suddenly remembered that I had heard that before. Now I wonder, was it just something that Liz had mentioned before or was it someone else who praised the coolness of German glasses. I pretty much suspect it was Caitlin. Now please enlighten me to whether I’m right or not.

Like a Blur

These last weeks seem like a blur to me. I realize I don’t have nearly as much time for myself as I am used to having. We’re wandering through furniture stores have some guys plan a kitchen for us (though we plan to buy only one, but we’d like to have options, so there), already carry boxes from our old apartment to the new one.

Time flies by and I have no idea how long it will be until we finally move and how much work it’s going to be, when we’ll finally be ready, how much it’s gonna cost. There are so many things on my mind that my only solution to avoid going crazy is just taking one step after another and constantly reminding myself that nothing really bad can happen and it’s all going to work out. Because seriously, what more could go wrong than us having to live without a kitchen for a few weeks. That’s about the worst case scenario I could come up with and considering that we’re surrounded by take away restaurants and my mother already mentioned they have a spare fridge in the basement that we can borrow, that’s not exactly that bad.

I’m also wondering if it’s finally safe to post some pictures of the apartment or if that could somehow jinx something. You know, I’m not superstitious. I’m just being careful. Totally different, right?

Blogging from the new apartment. W00t!!!!1!!!111

No, we don’t already live here, we just brought some stuff and someone around here has unsecured wireless internet so I’m using that just to tell you that I’m in the new apartment RIGHT NOW! Again with the wooting. More to follow soon.

Note to Self

Running with a stomach full of gnocchi and chili is never a good idea. I mean, really, why don’t I ever learn.
