What I Did Today

Today I…

… went to the movies to see „Flightplan“
… nitpicked the same movie on the way home
… talked to my aunt
… wrote a text message to my aunt because her train went through too many tunnels
… saw episodes of Supernatural and Smallville
… cooked dinner
… talked to Andreas for two hours until my ear hurt
… made all my CDs for Kira’s CD swap
… made a nice cover for said CDs
… listened to and loved Keren Ann’s „Nolita“ (and you would, too) (yes, all of you)
… wrote absolutely nothing for the NaNoWriMo which is exactly how you shouldn’t approach it
… went to bed and read „The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay“

Thanks for your attention. Do come back again.

Hair Plans

I just want you to know that I adore Alyson Hannigan. She is so damn cute in How I Met Your Mother that I can’t stop wanting to be her friend.
Because of this and because of my need for a new hairstyle I think I’m going to take a picture of her with me when I finally make that appointment with mon coiffeur. I wonder what I will look like with red hair. I hope it will be lots of fun.

Strange Sounds

Nobody can tell me that it’s a good sign when a battery makes sounds. It’s kind of the sound a bottle of coke makes when it’s still very sizzling and the cap isn’t fully closed. Some kind of zzzzzssszzzszszzzszzzs sound. But constantly. And coming from a battery.

I think I have to put it somewhere where it won’t hurt anyone when it finally explodes.

… when you recognize William Mapother in the approximately 38 seconds he is vaguely visible in „Minority Report“ and track him down to see that he played Ethan Rom in four episodes of Lost. One minute ago I didn’t even know the guy’s name.

Also, as a cousin of Tom Cruise you’d expect he’d get more than 38 seconds. 57 at the least.

Cuz when I look down
I just miss all the good stuff
And when I look up
I just trip over things

As Is – Ani DiFranco

Weekend Deals

It works that way…

„Okay, here’s the deal: We’ll tidy up the apartment a little more and then we go out for a walk and then I can hang around all afternoon and I’ll make us dinner in the evening.“

We have very different opinions on how a weekend should be spent.

I think – and the word is in italics for a reason – that my RSS feed works now. At least I was able to subscribe to my own blog on bloglines, so something seems to work. I still don’t know jack about RSS feeds, so don’t trust me on what I just said.

So, anyone who waited for a long time for that moment, try it and tell me if it still doesn’t work. If you have any helpful advice, I’d be thrilled.

Cologne Shopping Spree

The result of a four hour shopping spree in Cologne:

– four CDs (Ani DiFranco’s „Little Plastic Castles“1 and Keren Ann’s „Nolita“ plus two Jazz CDs for the husband)
– a new phone (actually two phones plus an answering machine, which we didn’t have until now)
– Erroll Garner piano transcriptions (also for the husband)

… and my favorite one – this:

If you think that doesn’t qualify as a real bad-ass shopping spree, I think I should mention the three books, two calendars (well, yes, I need two) and one DVD box that I ordered from amazon today. And the one CD I bought yesterday. I’m crazy. And I really love my new shoes.

1Just so you know, Caitlin, they do have lots of Ani CDs at the CD store where we were. And not too expensive as well. I’m a lucky girl.

Got this meme from Caitlin, although I saw it on her cousin Justine’s blog first. So, who am I to now join?

1. What do you think of me, iTunes?
The Art Teacher – Rufus Wainwright
„There I was in uniform
Looking at the art teacher
I was just a girl then;
Never have I loved since then“
That’s odd. I mean, are you sure??? Because I never wore a uniform and I never was madly in love with an art teacher.

2. Will I have a happy life?
I’ll Be Seeing You – Billie Holiday
„Iâ??ll be seeing you
In every lovely, summerâ??s day
And everything thatâ??s bright and gay
Iâ??ll always think of you that way“
It’s kind of a sad, melancholic song. But it’s also full of hope, so I choose to take that as a yes.

3. What do my friends really think of me?
Shaft Theme Song
„Who’s the black private dick
That’s a sex machine to all the chicks?
SHAFT!
Ya damn right!“
Okay, that’s too cool. I mean… hee! Ha! I knew it. I’m so damn cool.

4. Do people secretly lust after me?
How Am I Different – Aimee Mann
„Cause this show is
Too well designed
Too well to be held with only me in mind“
What kind of an answer is that? With the whole feeling of that song, I’d think that’s not exactly a yes here.

5. How can I make myself happy?
Blue Eyed Baby – Leona Naess
„Blue eyed baby say you will be
Waiting for me at the end of my day“
I’m positive he will.

6. What should I do with my life?
Leaning Against a Wall – Kings of Convenience
„Not to fall,
I lean against the wall.
I’m on the floor,
not listening anymore.“
Sometimes I guess the latter’s a good advice. But I don’t think I want to spend my life leaning on walls.

7. Why must life be so full of pain?
Fear – Kronos Quartet and Astor Piazzola
That one doesn’t even have lyrics. But the title isn’t that subtle.

8. Will I ever have children?
Didn’t Treat Me Right – Ebba Forsberg
„You preferred living alone you said
Than bringing somebody home you didn’t like“
Oh thanks. That’s good news. Not. I’m starting to think my music collection is a little bit on the depressing side.

9. Will I die happy?
Come Rain or Come Shine – Frank Sinatra
„The days may be cloudy or sunny
Weâ??re in or out of the money
But Iâ??m with you always
Iâ??m with you rain or shine“
It doesn’t say anything about dying, but it’s a happy song, so it seems I don’t have to worry here.

10. Can you give me some advice?
Red Tape – Nits
„She was always thinking
That the others were the losers
And that they could never kill her too
This is the official word
Now welcome to the papers
And the forms are waiting here for you
It didn’t work at all
She couldn’t stand or fall“
Aha. Thanks, anyway. I think the lesson is a vague ‚Don’t‘.

11. What do you think happiness is?
San Francisco – Vanessa Carlton
„We’re back, we’re back in San Francisco
We’re back and you tell me I’m home“
A very good answer.

I’m not tagging anybody, but if you do join, please tell me, so that I can check out your wise and all-knowing iTunes.

PS: I think the real answer will always be that I have a pretty good taste of music. They can’t take that away from me.
