Today I bought the husband a book on my way home. They didn’t have the one I originally wanted to buy, some book about or at least centering around the Voynich Manuscript I’ve been hearing so damn much about lately, so I had to find something else. But I think I made a good choice there.

He also got his music book today. The one that I ordered like three months ago, but never got here, until my second email in which I was pretty clear about my disappointment. Now it’s here, so all is good and the husband is happy. Twice.

Because I’m a good wife. That’s what I like to think.

There are always these moments where I would like to delete the whole program I have written and just start anew. Of course given how much we have to do here with all the new programs needing to be written, this is more than out of the question.

It happens like this. I start to write the code and I try to stay as simple as possible. I even try to include commentaries so that whoever has to adjust the program later, gets an idea about what that variable is used for and what these lines do. Whoever in a lot of cases is me and believe me, once you haven’t worked on your code for only a few days, you don’t remember a thing about it. You think you would, but you don’t.

After a while new ideas come up and have to be worked into the code and that is the moment it all starts to go wrong. Which doesn’t mean that once it’s done the program won’t work. It will, only by then the code will be just unreadable. And instead of cleverly adjusting and using what you have you just keep adding on stuff in fear that this one variable that looks like it has no use whatsoever might be crucial for the program after all. And you just don’t know.

Then comes the moment where I want to just delete all the code and start to write it again, knowing that I know more or less exactly what the program is supposed to do (as opposed to the vague description I got when I first started) and, more importantly, I have a pretty good idea about what works and what does not work.

Unfortunately, as I said, that’s out of the question unless I volunteer for spending my evenings and weekends here. Which I won’t. Sorry. It’s a nice idea, though.

It is Back!

Brought to you by Sunshine and Warmth it is finally back for a new season of pure happiness:

The Perfect Lunch Break.

God, I love this. Now I have to start baking muffins again.

Life is Strange

Just after I had shouted out the news that I was back I obviously fell right into non-writing mode again. I have two… no three good reasons why that happened.

1. Our new TV. Do you know what it difference size can make. Sometimes it really does matter. We celebrated the spending a hell of a lot of money by finally watching movies again. I don’t know if we really need to go the cinema… like ever again.

2. Podcasting is fun and rewarding and you learn a whole bunch of things, but it’s also awfully time consuming. Especially when you’re me. I’m sorry most of you can’t understand what I’m talking about there. For those of you who do speak German and haven’t listened to it yet, well… why the hell not?

3. The weather. It’s 10 pm and the window is open and I’m sitting here with my pajama trousers and a spaghetti top and am actually enjoying the breeze. I’m loving it.

Those are my reasons and I hope at least one of them is good enough for you to understand why the non-blogging was happening again.

Keyword Searches.

1. Yes, mentioning Anna Beth Chao seems to bring visitors to your site. Which may or may not be the reason I’m bringing this up again. Another reason is that I just checked my stats and realized that once more somebody came to my site while searching for cute Anna Beth.

2. Hey, you? You were looking for ‚cutest dog ever‘? Well, what can I say? There’s no need to look any further. It’s all here somewhere. I’m too lazy to look for and link to the actually entry, but it’s there. I remember posting the picture.

We’re Crazy.

So, yes. We finally got that new TV we’ve been thinking about for some time. We didn’t have anything specific in mind, we just knew we wanted a new flatscreen TV with 16:9 widescreen and that was basically all we knew.

Now one of Germany’s big media and electronic chains had this special offer where you get 10 Euro back for every goal the German team scores at the FiFa Soccer World Cup or whatever it is called.

That was just what we needed to finally decide to stop thinking about and really getting a new TV. We originally thought about something in the 700 or 800 Euro price category, but of course we ended up staring at those nifty bigger ones and eventually couldn’t resist getting a nice Siemens flatscreen for 1050 Euro. A lot of money, yeah, but from what I can tell from the short time we’ve had it… totally worth it. Now finally I think I can get in movie mood again. It sure makes a difference compared to our old TV (which, I admit, wasn’t that bad).

I also already got all the DVDs from the bedroom. Watching Battlestar Galactica on my computer was a nice idea when it actually looked better there than on our TV. But now I think I want to see it on the big screen.

Let’s all hope Germany scores a hell of a lot of goals. They don’t even need to win. Just shoot, guys.

Half-personal Note

This is mostly for Caitlin, but I figured I’d share with anyone:

I finished Persepolis 1. In French. It wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be, but strange. Now I wonder where I can get the rest of the books. It took a long time till it got here. I think the store I ordered it from had to get it from France first.

Anyway, just wanted to let you know. And you, too. Hee. So much for big news in my life.

Stating the Obvious

Do you realize something?

I’m back! From… wherever it was I have been those last few months. It doesn’t matter anyway, because… I’m back!

You can blame it on the spring or the sun or the birds chirping outside or the moment I realized that I can’t maintain three blogs at a time.

I don’t have a lot to say right now. I could write about how we had friends over yesterday and we didn’t get to sleep until way past midnight, but it was fun and everything, so I’m not complaining.

But that’s actually not that interesting, so I’ll remind you once again that… I’m back… and this will have to do for now.

Could it be the sun and/or the fact that it’s suddenly so warm that I don’t actually need a coat anymore? I still take it with me in case of a sudden temperature change, but I don’t actually need to wear it.

Suddenly it seems like I could actually get things done. It starts with the little things, like finally arranging for my mother to help us get rid of our freezer or writing a second mail to the online shop where I ordered a music book for the husband that we still haven’t received. They’re sending out a new one now, thanks a lot.

I am also in a very happy mood since I got the message that one of my songs has been played on a podcast. I uploaded the three songs we recorded a long time ago to the podsafe music network and ‚English Garden‘ was played on Charles’s Multiple Sclerosis Blog Podcast. You have no idea how thrilled I was. And still am, by the way.

We’re working on the husband’s website. Well, actually he’s working on it and I have to finetune the design later. I also plan on re-doing my music website soon.

I also earned my first Euro doing my podcast. Thanks to whoever it was who ordered from amazon using one of the links on my page.

As I said, those are all just little things, but add them up along with the warmth and sunshine and you get a pretty happy and not so slothy me. Let’s hope this will last.

I finally ordered the shirt I’ve been wanting for the last three years or so. That was back in the days when there was actual work involved when you wanted you’re very unique shirt.

Now it’s like five minutes on the internet and the result will (hopefully) look a lot like this:

Hee. I’m giggling just at the thought of wearing it.
